The Assist That Matters Most
How Giving Back Builds Stronger Athletes
This month, CleatMates had the privilege of supporting the Los Angeles Bulls’ She Her They clinics, a series of low-cost trainings designed to give more girls+ the chance to play soccer. We donated CleatMates to every participant because we believe that for female soccer players, confidence starts with feeling comfortable in your own cleats. When young athletes aren’t worried about odor or discomfort, they can focus on playing their best and growing in the game they love.
Good Sportsmanship Extends Beyond the Game
Soccer is more than just competition—it’s about showing up for your teammates, supporting your community, and lifting others up. Whether it’s through encouragement on the field or acts of kindness off of it, the best players are those who lead with heart. Volunteering, mentoring, and giving back don’t just help others; they also build resilience, leadership, and teamwork—skills that make athletes stronger in every aspect of life.
Giving Back Helps Athletes Grow
When players take the time to help others, they gain a deeper appreciation for the game and develop important character traits like patience, empathy, and responsibility. The same qualities that make a great teammate—communication, encouragement, and effort—are the ones that create great leaders.
Want to make an impact in your soccer community? Here are some ways young athletes of all ages can give back:
Assist at Youth Clinics: Help younger players learn skills, run drills, and build confidence.
Be a Team Mentor: Pair up with a younger or newer player to offer encouragement and advice.
Organize a Gear Drive: Collect gently used soccer equipment and donate it to players in need.
Volunteer as a Referee or Assistant Coach: Support local recreational leagues by helping with games and practices.
Write Encouraging Notes: Leave messages for teammates before a big game or surprise younger players with words of motivation.
Support a Soccer Charity: Raise awareness or funds for organizations that provide opportunities for underserved athletes.
Lead a Clean-Up Crew: Help pick up trash at fields and facilities to keep the soccer community clean and welcoming.
Making an Impact Together
By supporting the LA Bulls She Her They clinics, CleatMates is proud to be part of a movement that empowers young athletes to stay in the sport and grow in confidence. Soccer isn’t just about goals scored—it’s about the connections we build and the impact we make along the way.
No matter your age or experience, there’s always a way to give back. How will you make a difference in your soccer community?
